Session Outline

 

 

Abstract

 

This session is for teachers who want to explore how computers could be useful in their teaching but do not know where to start. It is not necessary to have prior knowledge of ICT tools to complete this course. Access to a computer with a reliable internet connection is important

 

 

Target Audience

 

EFL / ESL teachers and educators with little or no experience in teaching with computers and online web 2.0 tools.

Weekly Outline

 

 

At the end of the 5 weeks, participants, collaboratively and hands on, will have...


  • used various synchronous and asynchronous Web tools for learning and teaching EFL/ESL, 
  • interacted through e-mail, text chat, voice chat, voice and video mail, and distribution lists, among others, 
  • created wikis, blogs, podcasts and interactive exercises related to their own contexts, 
  • reflected on ways of applying those tools to their teaching, either online or face-to-face.

 

Week 1  (Jan 13 - 19, 2014)

 

Getting to know each other and the course platforms (PBworks, Yahoo, Edmodo). Reading about e-groups and wikis - their usage at school. Simple tasks in our platforms - photos, intros, reading tasks in Edmodo.
There will be regular online live sessions where participants can meet and interact with experts in the field and each other.

 

Week 2  (Jan 20 - 26, 2014)

 

Synchronous and asynchronous communication. Skype, Twitter, Eyejot, Voxopop.
An online live session where participants can meet and interact with experts in the field and each other. 

 

Week 3    (Jan 27 - Feb 2, 2014)

 

Working with pictures and videos - PhotoPeach or Animoto, Flickr, Youtube, Eyejot, (plus a choice of optional tools for more advanced users: Slideshare, Capzles, Sliderocket/Prezi). Blogs - embedding visuals. 
An online live session where participants can meet and interact with experts in the field and each other. 

 

Week 4     (Feb 3 - Feb 9, 2014)

 

Interactive exercises and quizzes. Embedding them in blogs and wikis.
An online live session where participants can meet and interact with experts in the field and each other. 

 

Week 5     (Feb 10 -16, 2014)

 

Cooperating online - revisiting Twitter, wikis, blogs, google docs (one platform - participants’ choice. International project work with other participants of the course, possible school projects for the future. Final wrap-up, evaluation. 
A closing online session, evaluation.
